Matthew L. Jimenez, MD
Founder and Chief Executive Officer

The inspiration and driving force behind the Foundation for Education and Musculoskeletal Research (FEMR) is Matthew L. Jimenez, MD, FACS, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in fracture care and joint reconstruction.  Dr. Jimenez is a member of Illinois Bone & Joint Institute based in the Chicago suburb of Morton Grove, Illinois. 

Dr. Jimenez received his Medical Degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1989 after completing his undergraduate training at the University of Utah.  He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Northwestern University, then completed a post graduate fellowship in orthopaedic trauma and joint reconstruction at the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook Medical Center in Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Matthew Jimenez is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and is currently a member of the AAOS Board of Councilors, as well as many AAOS committees.  He is a graduate of the AAOS’ Leadership Fellows Program. 

Dr. Jimenez maintains faculty appointment as Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  He holds leadership roles within IBJI, where he has been the Chairman and Medical Director of the Physician Assistant Orthopaedic Residency Training Program since 1997.  

Dr. Jimenez developed and chairs the annual Chicago Trauma Symposium, a four-day educational course on the complex challenges of trauma management. Since its inception in 1999, thousands of orthopaedic surgeons and allied health professionals have learned how to improve trauma patient care, thanks to Dr. Jimenez and his distinguished faculty.

Dr. Jimenez lectures extensively, nationally and internationally.  He has served as chairman and faculty on many educational forums in trauma and fracture care.  He has published several chapters and articles, along with presenting numerous scientific exhibits. His clinical research includes studies on bone marrow cells, anticoagulants, allografts and bone growth factors. Mark Vrahas, MD
Member, Board of Directors

Dr. Vrahas is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.  He is the Chief of the Partners Orthopedic Trauma Service.  He completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh.  His clinical interests are: Orthopaedic Trauma, Total Joints, Arthritis, Pelvic and Acetabular Fractures, Non-unions, Osteomyelitis, Post Traumatic Reconstruction and hip reconstruction/osteotomy.

Dr. Vrahas completed a Fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma and Joint Surgery at the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre in Toronto, Canada.  Prior to joining the staff at BWH, Dr. Vrahas was a Trauma and Joint Surgeon at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma at the Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

John T. Gorczyca, MD
Member, Board of Directors

Dr. Gorczyca is Chief of the Orthopaedic Trauma Division at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Associate Professor of Orthopaedics in Rochester, New York. He is board-certified and received fellowship training in Orthopaedic Trauma and Joint Reconstruction at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, University of Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Gorczyca treats post-traumatic hip and pelvis fractures as well as non-unions and mal-unions. His expertise includes limb shortening and/or lengthening to correct deformities. He performs complex reconstructive surgery to fix bone loss using bone transplants, artificial implants and growth of new bone in adults.

Philip H. Corboy, Jr., JD
Member, Board of Directors

Mr. Corboy is a Partner at Corboy & Demetrio, P.C. in Chicago, IL. Mr. Corboy received his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, Chicago and was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1978. He worked in a small white-collar criminal defense firm before joining the criminal division of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.

He is the immediate past President of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the American Association for Justice. A long-standing member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, he is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association, where he served on its Board of Managers. In 2002, he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Mr. Corboy is currently the President of the Board of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, the nation's second largest legal aid provider. LAFMC has over 90 full-time attorneys on its staff and we provide legal assistance to Chicago's poor, disabled, elderly and immigrant communities.

Luba T. Andrus, R.Ph. M.J.
Member, Board of Directors

Ms. Andrus is an educational coordinator and a consultant pharmacist at Forum Extended Care in Skokie, IL. She is dedicated to the educational needs of the healthcare industry with vast knowledge on health-related and professional topics.  She has extensive experience in long term care facilities including acute-care, sub-acute care, psychiatric, Alzheimer’s and hospice programs as well as community pharmacy. She also specializes in eldercare and elder law.  

To keep up with the financial & legal demands of the healthcare industry obtained a master of jurisprudence in health law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.  She was also a Joint Commission on Accreditation of HealthCare Organizations (JCAHO) facilitator to a national long term care pharmacy.
